How to Make Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew at Home
Even when it's August and still 90-plus degrees outside, I'm one of those people who is filled with glee as soon as the fall decorations and pumpkin-spice-everything arrive in stores. That excitement is particularly channeled to my love for coffee. While the coveted pumpkin spice latte is always a classic, my go-to treat order for fall is a Starbucks pumpkin cream cold brew. If you haven't had one yet, it's a dreamy blend of vanilla-sweetened cold brew coffee topped with a pumpkin-infused cold foam and topped with extra pumpkin spice. Seriously, it's the ultimate fall treat. But if you're trying to maintain your food budget or don't get to make frequent coffee shop trips (perhaps because you're working from home like me), I've got some amazing news: you can make your own DIY pumpkin cream cold brew at home that's just as tasty.
How to Make Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
Homemade pumpkin cream cold brew is easy to make with just a few items—which you may already have on hand.
- Cold brew: Use your favorite storebought or homemade batch.
- Milk: Nonfat skim foams beautifully, but we've also had great success with nondairy coconut milk oat milk.
- Canned pumpkin: Yes, we've included the real thing! You'll need a couple of tablespoons.
- Ground cinnamon: It gives it the taste of fall in a glass. If you want a punchier flavor, try pumpkin pie spice, which is a blend of allspice, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg. m
- Maple syrup: It adds natural sweetness. You can also use honey or simple syrup.
- Mason jar: It'll be a bit of an arm workout, but it's an easy tool to make your own cold foam. If you have a milk frother, that will also work well here.
Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew Nutrition
My favorite thing about making this easy pumpkin cream cold brew recipe at home is the lower sugar count. As much as I love the creamier, sweeter version from Starbucks, the use of a natural sweetener (maple syrup) is just enough to make it feel like a treat without loading on the extra calories. Here's the nutrition breakdown for a grande (16-ounce) serving:
Ingredients
-
½ cup skim milk or nondairy milk (we like coconut milk beverage and oat milk)
-
3 tablespoon canned pumpkin
-
1 tablespoon maple syrup
-
Ice cubes
-
1 cup cold brewed coffee
-
1 cup water
-
1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)
-
Ground cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice
Directions
-
Make Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam
Place milk, pumpkin, and 1 Tbsp. maple syrup in a 1-qt. canning jar. Cover and shake 20 to 30 seconds or until frothy. Remove lid. Microwave 30 to 45 seconds or until very foamy and warmed through.
-
Add to Cold Brew Coffee
Place ice cubes in 2 tall glasses. Add 1/2 cup coffee, 1/2 cup water and 1/2 Tbsp. maple syrup (if using) to each glass; stir to combine. Top each drink with foamed milk mixture and sprinkle with cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice.
