Ingredients

  • 2 pound bulk hot or sweet Italian sausage

  • 1 ½ cup green sweet pepper strips

  • 1 cup sliced yellow onion

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 14.5 ounce can fire-roasted diced tomatoes, undrained

  • 1 14.5 ounce can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed

  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

  • ¼ - ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 12 French-style rolls or hoagie buns, split and toasted

  • 1 ½ - 2 cup shredded provolone cheese (6 to 8 oz.)

Directions

  1. In a 12-inch skillet cook sausage, sweet pepper, onion, and garlic over medium heat until meat is browned; drain off fat.

  2. Transfer meat mixture to a 4- to 5-qt. slow cooker. Stir in next six ingredients (through salt). Cover and cook on low 4 hours or high 2 hours.

  3. After toting, keep warm, covered, on warm or low up to 2 hours if desired. Fill rolls with meat mixture and top with cheese.
